What are the rules and regulations at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA).
The rules and regulations at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) have become increasingly stringent over time.
Here are some core formal and informal rules that officer trainees (OTs) need to follow:
The Reflection Centre is an innovative disciplinary measure introduced in LBSNAA's Foundation Course (Batch 2023). It aims to instil discipline in OTs.
When an OT violates rules, they must sit in the Reflection Centre, without any mobile, book, or other articles, for 3 hours (5:30 to 8:30 PM).
During this time, the OT writes an essay of around 1000–2000 words on a given topic.
Arrive at least 10 minutes early for regular classes and 15 minutes early for special classes. Failure to do so results in a visit to the Reflection Centre.
Participate in daily physical training from 6:15 to 7:15 AM. OTs must reach the Polo ground, which is about 2-2.5 km away from the hostels, 10 minutes early. Any violation leads to the Reflection Centre.
No mobiles are allowed in class or during physical training. Violations result in confiscation of mobiles for 24 hours and a visit to the Reflection Centre.
No book reading during class sessions. Violations result in time at the Reflection Centre.
Generally, 2–10 senior officers from the IAS and other services are present in classes to monitor the OTs.
Formal attire is required in the mess unless otherwise specified.
Saturdays are usually not free days.
Classes start at 9:00 AM and end at 4:30 PM.
No leaves are permitted during the 3-month foundation course. Missing any classes results in a visit to the Reflection Centre.
No guests are allowed during the course.
Exams are designed to test basic acumen and are generally not intellectually challenging. Failing these exams requires a special effort.
Over time, you will appreciate the importance of these rules and become more disciplined.
You will learn to stay away from your mobile for extended periods.
You will get accustomed to working 15 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You will learn to trust your faculty members without question.
Ultimately, these rules help you develop the discipline necessary to become a civil servant.
By adhering to these rules, OTs at LBSNAA not only comply with the academy's standards but also build essential habits that will serve them throughout their careers in public service.
