Which machine learning algorithm is known as the lazy learner, and why is it called so?

k-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) is often referred to as a lazy learner. It's called "lazy" because it doesn't build a model during training but memorizes the training data and makes predictions at runtime based on the nearest neighbors.
