What is amplitude modulation (AM)

Amplitude Modulation (AM) is a modulation technique where the amplitude of a carrier wave is varied in proportion to the amplitude of the input signal (such as audio). The frequency and phase of the carrier wave remain constant. AM is commonly used in AM radio broadcasting and other communication systems.
