  1. 2001, 11th September – The United States become the victim of the worst terrorist attack ever launched. A Hijacked American Airlines Boeing 767 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Centre in New York, killing all passengers on board, and causing an enormous explosion. Fifteen minutes later, a second hijacked plane crashed into the South Tower. A third plane was flown at the Pentagon in Washington and a fourth crashed in Pennsylvania after the hijackers were overpowered. Both towers of the World Trade Centre later collapsed and the number of dead had been estimated at 3,000. No one has claimed responsibility, but many believed that was the work of Al-Qaeda.
